DCET Examination & Preparation FAQs

General Exam Information

DCET stands for Diploma Common Entrance Test. It is a state-level entrance exam conducted for diploma holders to get lateral entry admission directly into the second year (third semester) of undergraduate engineering programs (B.E./B.Tech) and architecture courses.

Candidates who have successfully completed a 3-year diploma in engineering/technology from a recognized polytechnic institute with the minimum required percentage (usually around 45% for general categories) are eligible to apply for DCET.

The exam generally consists of Engineering Mathematics, Statistics and Analytics, IT Skills, Fundamentals of Electricals and Electronics Engineering, and Project Management skills from the candidate’s all engineering diploma branch.

Preparation Strategy

Time management is key. Dedicate your weekdays to your final-year polytechnic academics and projects, and reserve your weekends strictly for DCET preparation. Since the DCET tests what you have already studied during your diploma, integrating your semester exam preparation with DCET objective question practice is highly effective.

Your standard diploma textbooks are your best resource for clearing basic concepts. Additionally, you should purchase specific DCET preparation books that offer chapter-wise MCQs and, most importantly, solve at least the last 5 to 7 years of previous DCET question papers to understand the trend and difficulty.
